Magnesium Sulfate Heptahydrate is used in a simple medium that preserves low concentrations of E. coli for use in the water bacteriology proficiency test. It is also considered a drying agent of fluids or source of magnesium and sulfate ions in biological buffer solution. In emulsions, it is used as a stabilizer and moisture medium.
