Potassium Chloride is commonly used as a laboratory reagent as a standard. Potassium plays important roles in many biological processes, including signal transduction, muscle contraction, maintenance of cell membrane potential. It may be used as a calibration standard ionic solution for measuring electrical conductivity. KCl is also a good source of ionic chloride, which should precipitate insoluble chloride salts upon addition to a solution of an appropriate metal ion.
